My first blog post...

hmmm...............

OK my thought for the moment, why is all this new age teaching such a crazy hit today? And why is seen as a threat by so many? You've got Oprah on the band wagon pushing The Secret and the latest Eckhart Tolle book (and of course her biggest classroom in the world surrounding that one) but why is it all happening now and what will the fall out be.

Ok my truth today (remembering the title of this blog), there are a lot of people in this world searching for an answers to many questions, many people feeling powerless and alone in this world, left wondering why me? why can't I have that life? And along comes a marketing professional with an amazingly compelling infomercial disguised as a documentary self help special selling the answer to it all... It's your thinking....You do it to yourself.... here watch this movie, read our book, do what this guy did, etc etc... selling this message to the masses of how to be what you want to be in a few easy steps - just change everything about how you think, what you do and why you do it.

I will often criticize artists like Marylin Manson for overestimating the intelligence of their audience.... people who obviously have significant intelligence, but forget that for the most part their message will be completely missed by the sheep following along.

I think this is the case with The Secret. Maybe I'm wrong but I foresee a mass exodus of this movement - people sitting on their couch visualizing their new car while they work their minimum wage job, blow any income over and above living expenses on luxury items such as eating out and smoking wondering where their new car is.... The evidence is already clear in the blog posts and new fear based sites trying to cash in on these sheep as they now begin looking for another green pasture.

Sure some of us will benefit, we'll do some research, we'll explore the newly regurgitated messages that are being offered and then study the works that these were derived from. We'll put down The Secret and pick up Charles F. Haanels - "The Master Key System", we'll pick up Wallace D. Wattles The Science of Getting Rich... We'll backup further and go deeper into writings such as the Bagavad Gita or the Holy Bible or many other ancient texts. We'll recognize that changing our thinking, our motivation, our actions is a life long systematic process, we'll realize that doing this for selfish gain may yield short term money but not wealth and long term happiness. We'll search out the truth beyond the marketing clutted of the mass marketing.

Ah whatever without sheep there would be no lamb chops for dinner tonight.

ps: if you're wondering "so does this guy believe in the secret or not?" the answer is simply yes, and since beginning the transformative process I am driving that new car I envisioned, and I do have multiple homes and a successfull business. But it's not the secret that gave me these things, it pointed me to the real teachings and I realized that these were the "tools" to maintain focus, motivation and direction in working toward my dreams.
